Michelle Tea
recently wrote a newsletter about “sourcing joy in our new Medieval era,” wherein she recounts fascists burning Pride flags at elementary schools and attacks on Drag Queen Story Hours and parents of trans children risking actual imprisonment for caring for their kids, and in the midst of this fresh hate wave, she ponders how we access queer joy.

It’s a good question.

The answer Tea comes up with is art and you should read the whole thing because it’s depressing and hopeful and furious and funny and it led me to wonder about what has given me queer joy lately, so I made a short list.

  • The biggest and most obvious one was that I got married a few weeks ago, surrounded by my chosen family, in a suit that was designed by a queer tailor (Thúy) who sewed our love letters into the lining of the jacket.
